Teaching Methodology

Variety of techniques are used either singly or in combination to enhance maximum learning:

  • Supervised lab practicals (50% of time)
  • Lectures
  • Open Lab Time
  • Group discussions / presentations
  • Role play
  • Demonstrations
  • Take home assignments

Assessment

Will be done through

  • Pre and post test written examination (MCQ)
  • Pre and post slide reading test (positive / Negative)
  • Pre and post parasite counting test
  • Pre and post species identification test
  • Practical assessment on smear preparation and staining

Reference Materials

  • WHO Malaria bench aids, WHO Malaria yellow book, lecture notes, CD and slides are given

Award

  • Certificate of attendance awarded on successful completion of the course
  • Certification of microscopists from 2006

Training

Currently is offered free. Participants are to make their own arrangements for

  • Accomodation: Ranges between Kshs 1,800 to 4,500
  • Meals: At training venue costs Kshs 500 per day
  • Transport: To and from Kisumu provided by the sponsor. Transport during the training is provided by CoE
  • Allowances: Provided by the sponsor
